A MAN whose friend took his own life last year plans to run 14 marathons in seven days to highlight the help available for those who feel suicidal.

Brian McGeown, originally from Castlewellan, Co Down but now living in Belfast, will begin his trek across Northern Ireland's six counties on at Belfast city hall today.

The 40-year-old seasoned marathon runner, who works at south Belfast restaurant Shu, is undertaking his Herculean task in memory of friend Michael Cullen, who died by suicide in January 2018.

The 33-year-old's north Belfast man's body was recovered from Cave Hill Country Park following a high-profile search.

The Ulster University employee was an established beatboxer who had performed to audiences all over Ireland and Britain.

Brian's seven-day odyssey will see him run more than 52 miles every day across counties Down, Armagh, Fermanagh, Tyrone, Derry and Antrim before concluding his run back at City Hall on Sunday September 1.

On the final leg he will run down Belfast's Antirm Road and is asking friends and supporters to join him for the last 3.3 miles.

Funds raised from donations will go towards the 33 Til Infinity campaign, which was established to honour the life and memory of Michael Cullen, and various suicide awareness charities.

"I want to get the message out there to those who feel vulnerable that professional help is available and that you should seek it out," he said.
