A fire at a border farm in which 140 sheep were burned to death may have been started deliberately.

A farm shed at Drumbouy in Lifford, Co Donegal, was completely destroyed in the blaze which broke out on Sunday.

Garda sergeant Charlene Anderson said the blaze was at an advanced stage when fire services arrived and the sheep could not be saved.

It was one of two major fires in the Strabane/Lifford area. The fire service today said that a blaze at the former Herdman’s Mills in Sion Mills on Monday evening was deliberate.

SDLP assembly member for West Tyrone Daniel McCrossany called for the mill to be brought into public ownership and restored.
