POLICE have appealed for witnesses after a man was assaulted in Co Down.

The victim, aged in his forties, suffered injuries to his face and head in the attack outside hotel premises in the Lurgan Road area of Banbridge.

Police said it was reported that "some form of altercation, involving a group of people", took place between late Saturday night and the early hours of Sunday morning.

A PSNI spokesman said: "A man in his forties remains in hospital having sustained serious injuries to his head and face as a result.

"Enquiries are continuing and we are appealing to anyone with information that could assist our investigation to contact us on 101."
