A GUN found at the side of a Co Derry road is believed to have been stolen in a burglary.
The weapon, believed to be a shotgun, was discovered at the side of the Oaklea Road near Magherafelt yesterday morning..
The PSNI said the weapon was found following a report of “suspicious activity in the area”.
It is understood the gun had earlier been taken during a burglary at a local property.
SDLP assembly member Patsy McGlone last night said that, while the incident was a result of a burglary, firearm holders should ensure weapons “are retained securely under lock and key when not in use”.
