Criminal vigilantes in west Belfast have issued a list of alleged dissident republicans they say are under threat.

It follows a number of recent paramilitary style attacks in the area.

The list - seen by the Irish News - includes the names of a number of high profile dissident republicans with links to the INLA and the armed vigilante group, Action Against Drugs (AAD).

However, it also includes a number of people with no known link to any armed group.

One businessman told the Irish News that his family had been devastated after his name appeared on a list and a padlock was thrown through the window of his house, narrowly missing one of his grandchildren.

"I am a republican but I'm not involved with any group", the man who did not want to be named said. Adding that threats could force his successful take away business to close down over fears for staff safety.

The criminal gang have recently launched attacks on homes and businesses in west Belfast and threatened the female relatives of some of those on the list.

Among those named as being 'under threat' is the man currently believed to be the head of the INLA in west Belfast.

The organisation, despite being officially on ceasefire, has been linked to the attempted murder of Deaghlan 'Decky' Collins on a busy main road last month.

The 30-year-old victim was leaving a fast-food restaurant on Springfield Road when the attack took place on Monday July 22, in front of horrified onlookers including a number of children.

Mr Collins ran about 200 yards and tried to escape the gunman by jumping into the back seat of a passing car.

However, it is believed his attacker caught up with him a short distance later and shot him twice in the legs before escaping on foot along Kashmir Road.

The victim was saved by a passing ambulance crew who stemmed the bleeding and took him to the nearby Royal Victoria Hospital.

His condition was initially described as critical but he has since stabilised and posted graphic pictures of his injuries on social media.

A number of people have been arrested in connection with the shooting and later released without charge.

It follows on from lists circulated on social media claiming to be drug dealers under threat from dissidents.

Again some of those named on the list have denied having any links to criminality.

People Before Profit councillor Matt Collins said: "There has been a string of incidents followed by intimidation in the area, that should be condemned by all and those responsible need to stop immediately".
