CASH and jewellery were stolen during a number of burglaries at the homes of older people in Derry and Castlederg.

Two homes in the Heathfield and Rockport Park areas of Derry were targeted between 10am and noon on Friday.

Money was taken from both and jewellery from the property at Heathfield.

Similar burglaries were also reported a short time later at houses on Hospital Road and Upper Strabane Road in Castlederg.

It is believed these happened between 11am and 3pm.

A small sum of money was stolen from one of the properties and damage caused to the other.

Police said: "All four crimes took place while the occupants were out running errands and each was left shocked by the invasion of their home while they were simply out going about their daily lives."

A spokesman appealed for information.
