Woman the latest road fatality after Co Armagh crash

A WOMAN has died following a car crash in Co Armagh on Sunday afternoon.

The accident is one of a number of road tragedies over the weekend.

The crash occurred two miles outside Armagh city, on the Loughgall Road at its junction with Ballybrannon Road, around 2.45pm.

The victim was the driver of a a red Vauxhall Viva which was in collision with a black Honda Civic.

Police are appealing to anyone who witnessed events leading up to the collision, or has dashcam footage, to phone 101 quoting reference number 1066 14/07/19.

Meanwhile, a motorcyclist killed while competing in a road race in Co Westmeath on Sunday has been named as Darren Keys, a father-of-three from Ballyclare in Co Antrim.

The 34-year-old suffered fatal injuries when his bike crashed during the Walderstown Road Races at around 11.30am.

He was flown to the Mater Hospital in Dublin where he was pronounced dead.

North Armagh Motorcycle and Car Club (Tarmac Section) paid tribute to Mr Keys, saying he "made a wonderful debut at Tandragee this year securing second place in the senior support race".

"Our deepest sympathy goes to Darren's wife Justine, daughter Molly, sons Harry and Charlie, family, friends and the team at this very sad time," they said.

Armoy Motorcycle Road Racing Club described him as "a proper gentleman both on and off the bike. He was loved by everyone in the paddock - fellow riders, officials and fans alike. A bright talent taken much too soon and he will be greatly missed".

A 19-year-old also died on Sunday after his car was involved in a collision with a tanker on the Saintfield Road, outside Lisburn, around 10.20am.

He was Seanna Duffy from Lurgan.

And Gardaí are appealing for witnesses after two people were injured in a serious motorcycle crash in Co Donegal.

The incident happened at 3.30pm on Saturday afternoon at Moness in Burt.

The pillion passenger on the bike, a 27-year-old woman, was taken to Letterkenny University Hospital but was later transferred to Beaumont Hospital in Dublin.

Her injuries are believed to be serious.

The driver of the motorcycle, a man aged 33, was also taken to Letterkenny hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

In Co Cork, a motorcyclist in his 40s was killed when his bike left the road and struck a ditch just south of Mallow on Sunday evening.

He died at the scene.

Meanwhile, the funeral takes place today of Ross Willetts (22), from Tobermore in Co Derry, who died after his motorbike crashed on the Drumenny Road, Cookstown, at around 3.30am on Friday morning.

Three people were also injured in a crash in Co Tyrone on Saturday night when their cars were involved in a collision on the Firagh straight, just outside Omagh.

The man and two women, all of whom were driving, were taken to hospital for treatment.
