The bodies of a man and a woman have been found at a property in Derry.

The discovery was made in Great James Street on Sunday morning.

Police are investigating the deaths and have said “post-mortem examinations will be carried out in due course.”

SDLP councillor John Boyle last night said people in the city were shocked by the double deaths.

“Everybody’s thoughts are with the two families,” he said.

He said it was important to “give the PSNI the time and space” to investigate the cause of the deaths.

“Our community is in shock,” he said.

“It’s always shocking when people lose their lives in any circumstances and a sudden death has that feeling about it.”

Sinn Féin councillor Mickey Cooper said: “There is a sense of shock and sadness in the local community on hearing this news.

“We send our sincere condolences to the families of the deceased at this extremely difficult time,” he told UTV.
