THE first sod has been cut on a new school build in west Belfast.

Holy Evangelists' PS in Twinbrook is expected to be complete by November 2020.

Work includes a 21 class primary school and double nursery unit.

The school was created through the coming together of St Luke's and St Mark's, which stood less than half a mile apart.

The new build was approved five years ago.

Derek Baker, Permanent Secretary with the Department of Education said the £8.6 million investment would "create many positive outcomes" for pupils, teachers and wider school community.
