Missing Co Down man Pat McCormick contacted police on the day he disappeared, it has been revealed.

Chief Superintendent Peter Farrar said in a statement yesterday: “On May 30, police received a call from Mr McCormick prior to his disappearance and the police gave advice over the phone regarding the call.”

The 55-year-old father of four has not been seen since May 30, when he left his parents’ home in Ballynahinch and drove to Comber in his black Citroen C4.

Police were yesterday carrying out searches in the Comber area.

They focused on the Comber River, close to the town's leisure centre, and in a lake just off the Lisbarnet Road.

Police also said “significant searches” had being carried out in the Ballygraffan Road area.

The detective leading the investigation, Detective Chief Inspector Pete Montgomery, said that on the night of his disappearance Mr McCormick was wearing a beige jacket, blue jeans and brown brogue shoes.

“It is now almost three weeks’ from Pat’s disappearance and his family remain absolutely devastated – they deserve to know what has happened to him and deserve to have his body back.
