MURDERED journalist Lyra McKee's sister Nichola Corner and friend Stephen Lusty are among 18 speakers due to take part in a TEDx event at Stormont this summer.

Compered by BBC broadcaster William Crawley, the event at Parliament Buildings on August 31 is expected to attract 200 guests.

Based on the theme 'imagine', speakers will talk about the future of society in Northern Ireland and across the world.

The speakers include Ulster University academic Duncan Morrow, writer Alice McCullough and artist Colin Davidson.

Ms Corner and Mr Lusty both spoke at Ms McKee's funeral in April after she was shot dead by dissident republicans in Derry.

The journalist gave a TEDx talk on religious and social intolerance at Stormont in 2017 which has been viewed almost 150,000 times online.

The event's curator, Eva Grosman, spoke of her shock at Ms McKee's killing.

"The response that we got from her striking talk in 2017 was phenomenal," she said.

"Her passion and desire for creating a better Northern Ireland shone through and her talk on religious and social intolerance has stayed with us all to this day.

"We are humbled that Lyra’s sister Nichola and close friend Stephen will take to the red spot and deliver their individual talks. This will be emotional for us all, but we want to make sure we can provide the platform to help carry forward Lyra’s message."
