MALACHI Cush is "recovering well" after being seriously injured in a Co Tyrone crash, his wife has said.

The popular singer and another man were taken to hospital on Monday after they were hit by a car in Dungannon.

It happened on Scotch Street at about 10.30am when a Volvo crashed into a parked Volkswagen Touareg, striking both men.

Police are investigating the circumstances of the crash and have appealed for witnesses.

Mr Cush (38), from Donaghmore, was taken by ambulance to Belfast's Royal Victoria Hospital (RVH) while the other man, aged in his fifties, was brought to Craigavon hospital.

Both were on Monday night said to be in a stable condition.

In a message on Mr Cush's Facebook page, his wife Claire thanked well-wishers for their support and said he "will be singing again in no time".

"Sincere thanks to everyone for their messages, phone calls and prayers for Malachi today. They were very much appreciated," she wrote on Monday night.

"Thanks especially to everyone who assisted at the scene, the medical team, the PSNI and all who came to his aid, as well as the brilliant staff at RVH.

"Thank God, Malachi is now recovering well and will be singing again in no time."

A native of Donaghmore, Mr Cush comes from a large musical family and his mother is a first cousin of country music star Philomena Begley.

Mr Cush broke onto the entertainment scene in 2002 when he appeared on the first series of BBC talent show Fame Academy.

As well as releasing several albums he enjoys a successful broadcasting career.
