A granddaughter of Indian independence leader Mahatma Gandhi is to speak at the Seamus Heaney HomePlace in Bellaghy.

Tara Gandhi Bhattacharjee will discuss the vision and legacy of her grandfather at the visitor centre in Co Derry on June 23.

It is one of four events being held that afternoon at HomePlace as part of international celebrations of the Jaipur Literary Festival (JLF) in India.

JLF Belfast from June 21-23 will also see events take place at the Lyric Theatre in the city on June 22.

Martin Kearney, chair of Mid Ulster District Council, expressed delight at HomePlace hosting events as part of JLF.

"Indeed, to host Mrs Tara Gandhi Bhattacharjee, granddaughter of one of world's most revered and respected politicians, social activists and writers, is undoubtedly one of the highlights of the festival in Bellaghy, and a rare opportunity to hear about 'the father of India' from someone with such a deep personal connection and knowledge," he said.
