THE Grand Orange Lodge of Scotland has said it will continue fighting for "fairness and equality" after losing an appeal against the re-routing of marchers in Glasgow.

Parades were due to take place in the city on Saturday and yesterday.

Marchers wanted to pass St Alphonsus's Church on London Road where Canon Tom White was spat on during an Orange Order parade last July.

Another incident referred to during the appeal at Glasgow Sheriff's Court on Friday saw a counter-protest subjected to abusive shouting last month.

Glasgow City Council said it had made changes to the authorised routes after police raised concerns.

The affected processions were by the Apprentice Boys of Derry (Bridgeton), Dalmarnock No Surrender Branch Club, Dalmarnock Orange & Purple District 50 and Orange & Purple District 37.

In a statement, the Grand Orange Lodge of Scotland said it was disappointed with the outcome of the appeal.

“A Roman Catholic church, located on a street in Glasgow, should never be seen as a threat to any other faith, in the same way that Protestants quietly walking past that church should not be seen as a threat either,” the lodge said.
