The family of Ryan Smyth have paid tribute to him after a body was found by police and volunteers searching for missing north Belfast man.

His twin sister wrote on social media: "The other half of me is gone. I loved him and he loved me and we will be together forever whether it's on earth or in heaven, my twin brother Ryan Smyth. I am unbelievably proud of you, thank you for being my best friend and always, no matter what, being there for me. I know your at peace now, I love you with all heart and soul and I always will."

His mum wrote: "Rest in peace my sweet Angel, we love you forever and ever, my gentle, compassionate, loving son, Ryan Smyth."

The 28-year-old had been missing since Monday afternoon, when he was last spotted at around 3.30pm in the Downview Gardens area.

Appeals for the whereabouts of Mr Smyth were made on Tuesday, as searches of the surrounding area got underway.

Members of the local Community Rescue Service (CRS) joined police in the search operation, and yesterday a PSNI spokesman said a body had been recovered.

"Police searching for missing 28 year old Ryan Smyth have found a body," the spokesman said.

"A post-mortem will be carried out to determine the cause of death, however, it is not being treated as suspicious at this time."

Speaking of Tuesday's searches, a CRS spokesperson said: "CRS volunteers discovered a body believed to be that of the missing person. The management and volunteers of the Community Rescue Service extend their deepest sympathy to the family and friends of the deceased."
