BELFAST City Marathon has apologised again after admitting the course this year was even longer than first thought.

This was the first year the event took place on a Sunday but it was beset by problems.

Organisers has already adjusted the times of all runners after admitting "human error" resulted in the new course being 0.3 miles too long.

It was stated that the lead car diverted twice from the published route.

Those taking part welcomed this but organisers came under further fire for "chaos" at the bag drop at the end of the race.

In a new statement yesterday, the marathon committee said the course was "544 metres too long, not 460 metres as originally stated".

"As such, the marathon times have been adjusted in accordance with each marathon runner's average finisher time," it said.

"We would sincerely like to apologise for this confusion."
