Man pleads guilty to careless driving causing the death of a child

A twenty-seven-year-old man who was due to stand trial for causing death of a child by careless driving has changed his plea.

Christopher Ian Curran from Baronscourt Road, Carryduff accepted committing the offence on April 1, 2015, after his lawyers requested his re-arraignment.

Standing in the dock of Dungannon Crown Court, Curran spoke only to confirm his identity, then say “Guilty” when the charge was read.

The two-vehicle collision occurred at Lough Shore, Enniskillen and claimed the life of Jamie Float (11), who was rushed from the scene, then transferred to the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast, where he passed away four days later.

Judge Stephen Fowler QC ordered pre-sentence reports.

He remanded Curran on continuing bail but warned: “This should not be taken as any indication of how I will ultimately sentence.”
