A 36-year-old man has been released on police bail after being arrested in connection with a claw hammer attack on a man in Lisburn, Co Antrim on Sunday night.

Three men gained entry to his Woodbrook Avenue flat at around 11.30pm and he suffered "lacerations to his head" in the subsequent assault.

Detective Sergeant Melanie McGrory said "the 36-year-old male was arrested in the Lisburn area yesterday, Monday May 6".

"He was interviewed and subsequently released on police bail pending further enquiries," she said.

"Our enquiries are ongoing and we continue to appeal to anyone who witnessed the incident or anyone with any information that can assist with the investigation to contact detectives in Lisburn on 101, quoting reference number 1657."
