A FISHERMAN from Scotland is believed to have died after slipping and falling from a boat docked at Kilkeel Harbour, Co Down.

Police have launched an investigation after being called to the scene on Monday evening, the Marine Accident Investigation Branch are also looking into the sudden death of the man.

The air ambulance was dispatched to the scene but the man was believed to have already died from his injuries.

The Chief Executive at Northern Ireland Fishery Harbour Authority expressed his condolences over the "very sad accident".

"It is a great tragedy. We extend our sympathies to the family of the man and the crew involved.

"It is a very sad accident and happened very suddenly," he added.

A PSNI spokesperson said: "Police were called to the sudden death of a man aboard a vessel in Kilkeel Harbour on Monday evening. The circumstances of the death will be investigated by the Marine Accident Investigation Branch."
