A TEENAGE girl who almost killed her former friend when she allegedly stabbed her in the neck will apply for bail again in two weeks, her lawyer has said.

With the 14-year-old appearing at Craigavon Magistrates Court from custody, her solicitor said there was no suitable bail address at the moment but that one may be forthcoming.

He asked District Judge Bernie Kelly to adjourn the case for two weeks for a potential application to free the teenager on bail.

The 14-year-old, who cannot be identified due to her age, is in custody accused of inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent and possessing a knife at Dean's Walk in Lurgan on April 19.

She first appeared in court on Easter Monday and at that stage, the court heard how the 15-year-old victim had to undergo life saving surgery after her carotid artery was severed by a knife, leaving her with what medics fear will be "life changing injuries".

A detective constable told the court how police received a 999 call at around 9pm on Good Friday “that a girl had been stabbed in the neck".

While the victim was rushed to hospital by ambulance, the defendant was "collected by her mother following a phone call".

The officer claimed that during the call, the 14-year-old said she had stabbed the victim.

Police have so far been unable to record a formal statement from the victim her but her phone was examined. It showed social media messages between the pair and “that the meeting was pre-arranged for a fight".

While he claimed there had been messages “back and forward” between the girls since an apparent “verbals exchange” in Lurgan town centre that afternoon, the teenager's solicitor said she “doesn’t accept” there had been messages sent.

Interviewed by police, the detective said the 14-year-old defendant “admitted that she had a knife while this fight took place” but claimed she had it “concealed up her sleeve and she accidentally caused the injury to her neck.”

Under cross examination from the schoolgirl’s solicitor, the officer agreed she had given a “full account” to police where she claimed she had “found the knife” on the ground.

The officer told the solicitor, however that is “contradicted by some witness who say it was held in her hand” although he agreed those witnesses were “friends of the injured party".

In court yesterday, Judge Kelly remanded the teenager back into custody to appear again on May 10.
