Gunman image posted 'in error' to Sinn Féin Facebook page
AN image of a gunman beside a Sinn Féin election poster was published online in error, the party has said.
The picture appeared on the North Down Sinn Féin Facebook page on Wednesday but was later removed.
It featured council candidate Kieran Maxwell who is standing for the party in Bangor West in the forthcoming local government elections.
The digitally altered image also included a gunman as well as a second balaclava-clad figure peering over the top of Bangor's McKee Clock.
A Sinn Féin spokesperson last night said the image was posted to Facebook in error.
"It was removed as soon as party members saw the post," he said.
"Sinn Féin has taken steps to tighten up the administration of this page."
North Down DUP assembly member Alex Easton said the picture was "disturbing".

"This is not in any way humorous particularly for the innocent victims who suffered at the hands of IRA terrorists," he said.
He added it was "in bad taste and wrong given that we are in 2019, when any form of promotion for terrorism should not be common place".
