HUNDREDS of runners are to race downhill at Stormont to raise funds for charity.

Reece Magill (10) was joined by Ireland athlete and European medallist Ciara Mageean to launch the CCUC Stormont Mile.

The course will start in front of Parliament Buildings, with runners completing a small section on flat ground before racing downhill to the gates of Stormont Estate.

Money raised will support the Children's Cancer Unit.

Reece is receiving treatment for leukaemia at the unit, where he will continue to visit until September 2020.

"When I am there, I am looked after by some of the best doctors and nurses in the world and they make me feel so much better. I hope lots of people will join me at Stormont on the 30th June to help raise funds for our team," he said.

Ciara Mageean described Reece as "an inspiring boy".

"I know what it is like to compete at the highest level and the CCUC Stormont Mile is set to be a fantastic event for serious runners aiming for a great time, as well as for more casual runners who will have a great day's fun while supporting an important cause."
