Three people have been charged in connection with an aggravated burglary in east Belfast on Thursday.

Two men, aged 32 and 34 and a 35-year-old woman have been charged with aggravated burglary and possession of an offensive weapon.

The 34-year-old man is due to appear at Belfast Magistrates Court today while the 32-year-old and woman are due to appear at the same court on Thursday May 2.

Meanwhile, five men armed with metal bars and a firearm entered a house at Mountjoy Street at around 10.05pm on Thursday.

A police spokesman said: "It was reported that the man armed with the suspected firearm threatened a man in his forties, a woman in her twenties and a young child during the incident.

"It is not believed that anything was taken during the incident and although no one was injured, the occupants were left badly shaken".

Elsewhere, a 40 year old man arrested on suspicion of burglary following an incident in the Chlorine Gardens area of south Belfast in the early hours of Thursday has been released on police bail pending further enquiries.
