THE man who died in a road crash in Co Down has been named locally as Harry McGarry from Ballymena.

He died following a two-car collision on the A1 dual carriageway between Dromore and Banbridge on Sunday evening. The crash, which involved a VW Passat and a Volvo XC60, happened close to the Gowdystown junction at around 6.30pm.

Tributes have been paid to Mr McGarry, who was from the Toome Road area of the Co Antrim town, with many describing him as "a really great guy".

One tribute on Facebook described him as "one of the most fun, friendly, and spirited people I've ever met", while a colleague wrote: "Harry was a gentleman and a great fella to work with".

Another tribute said Mr McGarry was "such a gentleman taken too early".

Ballymena Golf Club also wrote: "It is with regret that this morning we have learned as a result of a road traffic accident the death of our club member Mr Harry McGarry, our deepest sympathies go to is brothers Kevin, Sean and Michael and the wider family circle".

Requiem Mass for Mr McGarry will be celebrated at All Saints Church at 10am tomorrow followed by interment afterwards at St Patrick's burying ground, Crebilly.

He is survived by his mother Bernadette, siblings Margaret, Kevin, Sean, Patricia and Michael and family circle.
