THE family of a Co Tyrone man who died after he was found with head injuries in Derry have revealed that his organs have been donated to help five people.

Father-of-two Shane Conway (43) died in hospital last week after he was found at a house at Grafton Street in Derry’s Rosemount area the previous Monday.

While police initially placed a presence outside the house, they confirmed there were no suspicious circumstances following a post mortem examination.

Mr Conway was originally from Mountfield outside Omagh and his sister Roseanna Hughes said his death has devastated the family.

In a post on social media, she said: “We have never experienced pain or loss like it but we can take great comfort from the fact that his heart is being transplanted to another young man.”

Mrs Hughes said four other families had also received the gift of organ donation from her brother.

She said her family knew from experience how precious a gift this was.

“This in itself means much as we have lost a close family member who was awaiting a heart transplant and we know the change this would have made to our family’s life if he had received this," she said.

“We also had another family member who received a kidney transplant and know the difference this can make to a family."

Mr Conway’s funeral will take place tomorrow from his mother Rose’s home at Killyclogher Road, Mountfield for Requiem Mass at Corpus Christi Church, Mountfield at 11am, with cremation afterwards at Lakelands crematorium in Co Cavan.
