POLICE have appealed for information following a report of a sexual assault in south Belfast.

The PSNI received information that a woman had been assaulted in the University Road area in the early hours of Sunday.

Police said it received a report that a dark-haired woman wearing a red jacket was assaulted by a stranger near Lower Crescent between 2am and 2.40am.

Enquiries are ongoing and police have appealed to anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident and who noticed a woman matching this description, or any suspicious activity to contact them.
