POLICE last night said a man required facial surgery after being attacked by a gang in north Belfast.

The victim, who is aged in his 50s, and another man in his 20s, were set upon by a group of men in the Elmfield Street area on Monday between 12.30am and 1am.

A PSNI spokesperson said the man in his 50s suffered "significant facial injuries" in the assault, requiring surgery.

The other victim was also injured in the attack.

Police have appealed for anyone with information on the assault to contact them.
