Inquest into death of 14-year-old Newry schoolboy adjourned due to new information before the court

An inquest into the sudden death of a Newry schoolboy was adjourned yesterday due to new information before the coroner’s court.

Former Abbey Grammar student Johnny Shields was pronounced dead at Daisy Hill hospital on November 11, 2017 from penetrating head injuries.

The 14–year-old, from Creggan Road, Mountnorris, Co Armagh, was a fourth year student at the Newry school.

Coroner Ms SM Anderson told the inquest that she was “with regret” adjourning the case despite the attendance of witnesses.

"Unfortunately following discussions I will not be able to proceed today," said Ms Anderson.

"Further information in to the case has been brought forward yesterday at the last minute

"In the interests of the family, the courts and everyone I will adjourn the case."

"I will have the case listed soon as possible," added the coroner.
