Brexit conference to be held on border

A conference on the potential impact of Brexit is due to be held on the border this weekend.

Senior business, political and legal figures will take part in the conference in the Carrickdale Hotel tomorrow.

Although in Co Louth, the venue is close to the border with Co Armagh.

The British government and the EU have been at loggerheads over how the Irish border will be managed after Brexit, which is due to take place at the end of this month.

Organised by the charity Peaceful Futures South Armagh, speakers at the event will include UUP leader Reg Empey, the director of CBI Northern Ireland Angela McGowan and solicitor Eugene Reavey Jr.

Commentator Alex Kane will be joined byMarie Mohan, of Greenfield Foods, and Conall Donnelly from the NI Meat Exporters Association, while Rita Sha, CEO of the Shabra Group, completes the line up.

The event, which has been funded by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade in Dublin, will be chaired by journalist Eamonn Mallie.

The conference will take place at the Carrickdale Hotel tomorrow at 4pm.

Organisers say preregistration is essential to guarantee a place.
