RACIST graffiti has been spray painted onto a property in Co Tyrone.

Police confirmed they are treating the graffiti in the Millburn Park area of Cookstown as a racially motivated hate crime.

It is believed to have happened between 9.45am and 10.15am yesterday.

It follows a police appeal for information about graffiti sprayed on a wall in Portrush, Co Antrim on Sunday.

A car park wall in the north coast town was daubed with "Syrians not welcome".

Cookstown Sinn Féin councillor Gavin Bell said: "The handful of individuals carrying out these cowardly attacks are thankfully a minority.

"Cookstown and Mid-Ulster is a growing multicultural place to live and work and people should not be deterred from living here.

"I would call on anyone that has any information or seen anything suspicious or alarming in the area around the time of this incident to get in touch with police in Cookstown."
