FORMER Sinn Féin leader Gerry Adams was joined a number of family members and friends at the funeral of his convicted sex offender brother Liam in Donegal yesterday.

Liam Adams died in a Belfast hospice last week after being released from prison for end of life care, five years into a 16-year term for sexually abusing his eldest daughter.

Gerry Adams was among mourners at St Eunan's Cathedral in Letterkenny before burial at Conwal graveyard.

His brother had been waked at the home of his second wife in the Mountaintop area of the town since Thursday.

The funeral cortege was led by a silver Belfast taxi as it made the two-mile journey to the cemetery.

Meanwhie, it emerged that a brother-in-law and former driver of Gerry Adams, Eamonn McCaughley, also died suddenly yesterday.

Mr McCaughley, who worked as an undertaker, was married to Mr Adams's sister Anne.

A tribute was paid to the grandfather and great-grandfather by the Dunmurry Sinn Féin cumann, which said: "We are deeply saddened to learn of the sudden death of our dear friend and much respected comrade."
