North loses out on list of best beaches in Ireland and UK

Banna Strand in Co Kerry was named as the second best beach in Ireland by reviewers on the TripAdvisor website

THE top beaches in Ireland and Britain have been announced - but no beauty spots in Northern Ireland made the list.

Travel website TripAdvisor released a list of the best 10 beaches in Ireland and separate ratings for the top seaside spots in the UK.

Inchydoney in west Cork was named as the best beach in Ireland, followed by Banna Strand and Inch beach - both in Co Kerry.

The famous Strandhill beach in Co Sligo came in at number four.

Bournemouth beach on the south coast of England claimed the top spot on the UK list.

Luskentyre on the Isle of Harris in the Outer Hebrides was named as the second best beach, followed by St Brelade's Bay in Jersey.

Rankings were calculated by TripAdvisor using review scores given by visitors on the travel website.
