A MAN who died in a Co Antrim hostel was convicted of killing Derry musician Jim Gilchrist in 2005.

Daryl Quigley (32) was found dead in the Simon Community hostel in Henry Street, Ballymena, on Sunday.

On Tuesday night police said that following a postmortem examination his death is not being treated as suspicious.

In 2008 Quigley and Daniel Young were found guilty of the manslaughter of the well-known blues musician as he made his way home from a motorcycle club meeting in Derry in 2005.

His remains were found in the River Foyle a day later.

Anthony Fahy was convicted of murder in 2008. Quigley admitted manslaughter and was sentenced to 10 years in prison in 2008 but was freed in 2011. Since then he appeared in court several times charged with a range of offences. Earlier this month a court in Coleraine, Co Derry, was told that Quigley had a “spiritual awakening” in prison after his stepfather’s death.

A 27-year-old man arrested on suspicion of robbery and assault occasioning actual bodily harm on Sunday was released on bail yesterday.
