Police have charged a 28-year-old man with making threats to kill and possession of offensive weapon.

The charges are believed to be linked to threats against two people connected to the family of east Belfast loyalist Ian Ogle.

Mr Ogle (45) was stabbed to death close to his Cluan Place home in January.

A number of people were arrested in connection with the murder which was linked to members of the UVF after Mr Ogle and his son Ryan had fallen foul of the organisation around 18-months before his death.

One man Jonathan Brown (33) from McArthur Court in east Belfast has appeared in court charged in connection with the murder and was remanded in custody to appear in court via videolink on March 8.

Brown was detained by police at Heathrow Airport. It is understood he was arrested after returning from Thailand. He indicated in court that he denies planning, preparing and committing the offence.

A Facebook page set up in memory of Mr Ogle claimed threats were made this week against Mr Ogle's son Ryan and a woman who is friends with the family.

The man was charged with threats to kill and released due to appear at Belfast Magistrates Court on Wednesday, 20 March.

PUP councillor John Kyle said: "I have spoken to the family. I think it is utterly reprehensible.

“I would condemn it without equivocation and I just think that someone who would make threats has gone beyond the pale".
