Spate of ATM thefts and attempts to steal cash machines in recent months

THERE has been a spate of ATM thefts and attempts to steal cash machines in recent months, particularly in Co Tyrone.

:: February 15: A cash machine was ripped out of the wall of a filling station near Omagh, Co Tyrone. A digger was used to remove the ATM from the station on the Killyclogher Road.

:: February 2: Two ATM machines are stolen from a shopping centre in Antrim. A large digger was used to remove the machines from the side of an Asda supermarket on the Ballymena Road during the early hours.

:: February 2: Thieves targeted a cash machine near Moira. A digger was used to remove a cash machine from a service station on Glenavy Road near Moira. The digger had been stolen from a nearby building site and was later set alight.

:: January 6: Thieves attempted to rip an ATM from the wall of a shop at a Spar on the Old Mountfield Road in Killyclogher. A stolen piece of plant machinery was used to try and rip out the cash machine which was built into the shop's wall, but the robbery was foiled when local residents rushed to the scene and shouted at the thieves.

:: December 22: A stolen building site digger was used to rip a cash machine from a shop in Fintona, Co Tyrone. After removing the ATM from the premises on the Tattymoyle Road, the thieves set the stolen vehicle alight before making off.

:: December 16: An ATM was stolen from a bank in Ballybay, Co Monaghan after thieves used a digger to remove the machine. Three men are believed to have been involved in the operation and the machine was towed away on a trailer.

:: October 27: A stolen digger has been used to remove a cash machine from a service station in Ballyclare. Thieves used a yellow Case digger to remove the ATM from the shop on the Templepatrick Road.

: March 21: Thieves used a fortlift to rip an ATM out of the wall of a shop in Keady, Co Armagh. The shop on Victoria Street by thieves who emptied the ATM and made off with the cash. Police said considerable damage was caused to the wall of the building.
