Man charged with possession of 'zombie knife'

A man has appeared in court today accused of carrying a so-called "zombie knife" on a south Belfast street.

Thomas Allen, 34, allegedly had the knife with a 40cm blade at Eglantine Avenue last month.

Allen, of Ballybog Road in Dunmurry, Co Antrim, faces one charge of possessing an offensive weapon in a public place.

Belfast Magistrates' Court heard he is accused of having the zombie knife on January 15.

No further details of the alleged incident were disclosed during his first appearance.

Allen spoke only to confirm that he understood the charge.

He was released on continuing bail to return to court in a week's time.
