IRISH language road signs in Co Derry have been vandalised, with an MLA condemning the actions as "racist vandalism".

The signs around the village of Park were defaced in what Sinn Féin East Derry MLA Caoimhe Archibald claimed was not the first occasion.

"The local community campaigned hard to get these signs and they have expressed their understandable annoyance at this display of racist intolerance," she said.

"Occurrences like this bring into focus the need for protection of Irish Language rights through Acht na Gaeilge."

Ms Archibald urged anyone with information to contact police.
