A 19-year-old from Co Down is to stand trial later this year on charges linked to an alleged incident involving a lock knife.

Jake Beattie, from Valetta Park in Newtownards, appeared in the dock of Belfast Crown Court today where he denied two charges put to him by the clerk.

Beattie replied "not guilty" to possessing an offensive weapon on February 3 2018, namely a lock knife, with intent to commit wounding with intent to do grievous harm.

The accused also denied a charge of unlawfully and maliciously wounding a man with intent to do him grievous bodily harm on the same date.

A defence barrister told Judge David McFarland he was seeking a neuropsychologist's report ahead of the trial.

He also said Beattie's defence is one of "self-defence".

A three-day trial was set for April 1, and Beattie was remanded back into custody.
