A man has been treated in hospital after being stabbed in north Belfast.

The victim received his wounds, which police said are not life-threatening, close to the junction of Antrim Road and Dawson Street in the New Lodge area at around 2.30pm yesterday.

The Ambulance Service said two rapid response paramedics and one emergency crew were sent to the scene.

A spokesman for the Royal Victoria Hospital last night described the man's condition is stable.

Sinn Féin councillor JJ Magee said people in the area were shocked.

“The community want these people off our streets and these knives off our streets as soon as possible,” he said.
