Man (25) jailed for supplying cocaine to his friends

A 25-year-old man who supplied cocaine to his friends has been jailed for a year

A 25-YEAR-OLD man who supplied cocaine to a small number of friends in a bid to fund his own drug addiction has been jailed for a year.

Gary Coleman, from The Green in Holywood, Co Down, admitted possessing the drug with intent to supply on December 14, 2017.

He was handed a two-year sentence at Belfast Crown Court yesterday - half of which is to be spent in jail, with the other half on licence.

The court heard that Coleman was arrested after cocaine was found in 19 separate bags in a bin at the rear of a house on Hopewell Crescent in north Belfast.

Coleman was living in the house at the time.

Text messages on Coleman's phone suggested he was supplying drugs.

When arrested and interviewed, Coleman told police he had bought the cocaine for £250 for Christmas and he had supplied it to a small number of friends.

Defence barrister Sean Mullan told the court his client had supplied the drugs to fund his own addiction. He revealed that Coleman's addiction was so severe that he had been taking up to three grams a day.

Mr Mullan said his client has since taken steps to address his addiction.
