LIAM Neeson's nephew has died surrounded by his family in Cushendall, Co Antrim, five years after suffering horrific injuries in a 20ft fall while on a night out with friends.

Ronan Sexton, the second youngest of the six children of Neeson's sister Bernadette, died at the weekend aged 35.

He had been injured in Brighton in June 2014 when he slipped from a telephone box he had climbed outside Brighton Pier on the city's seafront, falling on a concrete subway below.

The Ballymena-born Hollywood star was said to be "devastated" by the accident which came five years after his actress wife Natasha Richardson died from a head injury following a skiing accident.

Mr Sexton, a keen musician who had been living in Worthing, West Sussex, was taken to Royal Sussex County Hospital before being transferred to Hurstwood Park Hospital in Haywards Heath.

His family said in a statement at the time: "Ronan is receiving wonderful treatment from the dedicated staff at Hurstwood Park".
