A WOMAN was critically ill in hospital last night following a single-car crash in Co Derry.

The crash happened in Glengrainne Gardens in Park early yesterday.

Meanwhile, a young teacher who was killed after saving a six-year-old girl from being hit by a moving jeep on school grounds is to be buried today.

Mother-of-two Dawn Croke died instantly when she was hit by the jeep at St Crona’s National School in Dungloe at 6.30pm on Thursday.

Ms Croke, who was in her early thirties, had been at the school with her partner Paddy McHugh and Mr McHugh’s six-year-old daughter.

Mr McHugh’s white Ford Ranger jeep, which had been parked on school grounds, rolled towards Ms Croke and the child.

It is understood Ms Croke managed to push the child away and took the impact.

Ms Croke died instantly. The young girl was treated in Letterkenny University Hospital for a broken pelvis and a foot injury.

Ms Croke was a PE and resource teacher at Rosses Community School where her father Tony also taught.

The school closed on Friday and will remain closed today.
