THE A1 carriageway has reopened after a second closure in less than 24 hours with a collision between a lorry and two cars.

The busy road was closed southbound at Loughbrickland and northbound at the Sheepsbridge roundabout.

It is understood the lorry overturned into the southbound lane where it partially shed its load following the collision with two cars on the northbound lane.

Police said there were "believed to be no serious injuries".

The A1 reopened around lunchtime.

The closure came just hours after the carriageway had reopened following a crash the previous day.

At around 4.15pm on Wednesday, it was reported that a lorry was involved in a collision with a car in the northbound lane near the junction with Camlough Road.

Police said two people were taken to hospital with injuries which are "not believed to be life-threatening".

That crash led to the closure of both lanes of the A1.

The road did not reopen until around 5am yesterday.
