Prisoner absconds while on home leave from Maghaberry

A PRISONER convicted over gun crime has absconded while on home leave from Maghaberry Prison.

James Daniel Hunter (56) failed to return to jail on January 6 after being allowed home during a "period of pre-release testing".

A spokesperson for the Northern Ireland Prison Service last night said: "We are focused on returning him to custody and we would ask anyone with information to contact the PSNI on 101 immediately".

Hunter was convicted of a number of charges, including possession of a firearm or ammunition with intent to endanger life, attempted robbery and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

He is described as being around 5ft 7ins tall with blue eyes and brown hair. He is of medium build with a fresh complexion.

When last seen, he was wearing a blue parka coat with a fur hood, a grey sweatshirt and blue jeans.
