A COUPLE who scooped a £115 million EuroMillions jackpot are to go public today about their lucky start to 2019.

The pair from Co Armagh won the New Year's Day lottery draw.

They won a total of £114,969,775.70, making them the fourth biggest UK lottery winners in history.

In the New Year's Day draw 10 other players took home £1 million in prize money each.

The winning main EuroMillions numbers were 01, 08, 11, 25, 28 and the winning EuroMillions Lucky Star numbers were 04 and 06.

The New Year's Day win follows a series of high-profile lottery prizes in recent years.

Northern Ireland has a long history of lottery winners.

In May 1996, Belfast bus driver Peter Lavery hit the headlines when he won more than £10m while in 2004, north Belfast woman Iris Jeffrey scooped £20.1m.

The then 58-year-old who was battling cancer at the time had two grown up daughters and had been due to become a grandmother the following week.

Other winners include IT worker Ryan Magee who won £6.4m on Euromillions and Belfast garage owner, Joe Clarke who took home more than £10m.

In 2017, Newry couple Eithne and Colin Bell, who founded the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust in memory of their son, who was killed in New York, won £1m.

Also in 2017, Derry couple Catherine and Ciaran Kidd from Draperstown scooped £1m on the EuroMillions UK Millionaire Maker - two years after winning £20,000.
