POLICE are investigating a report of an alleged assault in west Belfast at the weekend.

It is thought the incident, which was reported at 4.20pm on Saturday, may be linked to a video circulating on social media, which shows an ambulance and a large number of people congregating in the Dermott Hill area.

In a statement the PSNI said: "Police in west Belfast received a report of an assault in the Dermott Hill area on Saturday, December 29. Enquiries are continuing."

The PSNI said enquiries are at an early stage and did not disclose any further information in relation to the nature of the attack or any injuries sustained as a result.

In September The Irish News reported on a late-night gun attack on a house in Dermott Hill Parade.

The house belonging to George Richmond and his family was targeted by two masked men, with seven shots fired at the front window and door, causing extensive damage to the property.

Security cameras fitted around the property captured the attack, with the weapon belonging to one of the gunmen jamming before they were seen running off.

Speaking at the time Mr Richmond said his family had been subjected to several years of harassment, with three cars previously destroyed in arson attacks.
