A MAN has been attacked with a hatchet in Co Down.

It happened at around 12.40am on Thursday at a house in Queens Park in Saintfield.

The man opened his door to two men carrying iron bars and a third armed with a hatchet.

He was struck in the head with the hatchet and received a small cut that was not believed to be serious.

One of the men was described as being 6 feet tall with short dark hair and wearing a dark hooded top and tracksuit bottoms.

A second man was 5 feet 6 inches, of heavy build with a navy hooded top and tracksuit bottoms, while the third was around 5 feet 8 inches tall, slim and wearing dark clothing.

Police are particularly keen to speak to anyone who saw a dark coloured Renault Clio with ‘R’ plates in the area at the time.
