THE funeral of a three-year-old boy who died after being struck by a car in Co Down has taken place this morning.
Kai Corkum was struck by a car on the Movilla Road in Newtownards on December 13 while walking to the shop with a relative to get a lollipop.
A service was held at S Clarke and Son funeral church in Newtownards at 11am with Kai being laid to rest at Whitechurch Cemetery in Ballywalter.
His family took the agonising decision to turn off his life support the day the crash after doctors confirmed there was no brain activity.
This is the second child the family has buried in the past two years.
Kai's heartbroken mum Yasmine (26) previously revealed they also lost 19-week-old baby Lily-mai in January 2017.
The three-year-old was buried beside his sister.
Yasmine and husband Michael, who also have two older sons, described Kai as an affectionate boy who always had a smile and loved everybody.
Meanwhile, the local community has rallied round to support the Corkums and an online fund to help with funeral costs had almost reached its £5,000 target.
A tribute to Kai on the GoFundMe page described him as a "loving, beautiful and smart little boy" who always had a smile on his face.
It said the fund will help with funeral costs and also give the family "one less thing to worry about so they can grieve for their son in peace".
Kai was a pupil at the Chuckles pre-school department of Castle Gardens Primary School, which has been providing support to pupils.
