THIEVES have made off with "a substantial amount of money" after breaking into an ATM in east Belfast.

It happened close to an off-licence on Castlereagh Road in the early hours of this morning.

Police said it happened at around 3.30am and "a substantial amount of money was taken".

It is believed those reponsible made off in the direction of Wayland Street, police added.

Police are appealing to anyone who saw any suspicious activity in the area to contact them or call Crimestoppers.
