MURDER victim Padraig Fox has been laid to rest in the Co Down townland where his grieving family recently made their home.

The 29-year-old was found dead in a flat in Newcastle in Co Down on Saturday December 8.

It is understood he had only moved into the block of flats a few months ago.

A 21-year-old man has been charged with Mr Fox's murder, while two other men aged 26 and 20 have been charged with perverting the course of justice.

Mr Fox's funeral took place on Saturday at St McCartan's Church in Loughinisland. His remains were interred in the adjoining cemetery following Requiem Mass celebrated by parish priest Father Kieran Whiteford.

The funeral was attended by the deceased's mother Marie and his father Mark, alongside his two sisters and brother.

Mr Fox's family has only recently moved to Loughinisland.

Police investigations into the murder at Mr Fox's flat on Burrendale Park Road are continuing.

Donach Rice (21), from Kilkeel Road in Annalong, appeared at Newtownards Magistrates’ Court last week charged with murder.

He also faces two counts of perverting the course of justice by knowingly giving a false statement to police and submitting himself to a knife wound “to give the false impression the wound had been inflicted by self-defence”.

Rice also faces charges relating to burglary, attempted robbery and fraud.

Paul Patrick Magennis (26) from Burrendale Park, Newcastle appeared in the same dock accused of theft, two counts of perverting the course of justice, and the attempted robbery of cash.

Meanwhile, the murder accused's cousin, Nathan Rice (20) of Bernagh Green in Newcastle, has been charged with perverting the course of justice.
